Father’s Day Field Trip

The main thing I wanted to do for Jim to celebrate Father’s Day was cook some of his favorite foods. So we had Eggs Benedict for brunch and steak on the grill for dinner. Since it was a lovely afternoon, we decided it would be fun to do a family field trip so he could see some of the cool things we had already been able to view this spring: Purgatory Creek, Gray’s Bay Dam (and also a quick trip to Libb’s Lake) with a side trip for ice cream at McDonalds in Wayzata too!

At Purgatory, it was lovely to stroll along the path and see everything so green. The creek was very swollen and we were rewarded with lots of good sightings.

At the dam, Jim was really impressed with how high the water was. He did not ever recall having seen it like that, which matched with the official reports of the lake level. There was very little difference between the lake and creek level but the was was still going over the weir toward the creek. We saw some interesting things like a big snail and raspberry bushes laden with fruit that would be ripening in a few weeks. The berries were quite a bit ahead of ours at home.

The trip was rounded out with a quick trip to Libb’s Lake, where were definitely saw a big difference in the lake levels where we have fished before.

It was really wonderful to have Jim be with us on our of trips so he could join in the fun too!
