Today was the culmination of about a month long project focus in our homeschool – the Imagination Fair. This was a chance to display projects and discuss them with peers and adult project mentors. It was a great morning representing many hours of work. I was particularly impressed with the girls’ ability to speak to so many people about their work without ANY assistance from me.
Natalie and Jamie made fairy gardens. There were quite a few steps in constructing them. They used skills in figuring out scale, finding building materials, managing time and resources, writing, reading and compiling.
We also had an outdoor version, which we called Fairy Town – 4 little fairy yards where the kids’ sandbox used to be
Gloria did an art exploration with different ways to represent a real life object. She learned how to shop for supplies, work with new materials, get past a road block and lots more in addition to what she created.
Lauren did a large display and video about backyard chickens. She included a spinner, facts and some polymer clay chicken coop items. She also helped with site prep for the real coop and attended a class with me so we would be ready for our actual backyard chickens.
This was a great month and I am looking forward to seeing more kids project learning this year and next year.
