The girls were fairly disappointed in the fact that they could not swim in the River at Interstate Park, including the campground. However, having been through the area before, I knew there was a little park north of Taylors Falls sponsored by the local Lions Club where they could swim before we headed home. It was a nice chance to cool off and see the difference between Lake Minnetonka swimming, Lake Superior swimming (which is only getting wet and getting out as fast as possible) and river swimming. In this instance, river swimming involves a drop off and a current. First, I found a hidden rope swing. Unfortunately, the water was not high enough for it to go out over the drop off.
But the girls found a picnic table that had been moved into the water and they dragged/floated it over to the beach area and used it as a diving platform by positioning it at the edge of the drop. Brilliant.
We hung around for a while, snacking and playing in the sand before we headed for home.
On the way home, we stopped at Eichen’s Cheese and Bison store. We looked at the shops, bought some curds and got to see the bison out in the pasture, too. I was glad that the ride home was fairly short because we were all tired. I really tell that vacation was over and that we had done everything we would have wanted to by seeing the tired faces.
