Bell Museum Field Trip

Jim was home sick from church today with an awful sore throat. The sermon was on Revelation 10 and I was surprised to find out that Lauren and Gloria were listening a lot more than I thought they had been. We got a zentangle book from the library, which I had been waiting to get and they were very excited about doodling during the sermon time.

While drawing these, they still heard information about “eating the scroll” in Rev 10 and had some application for life and from youth group. I thought that was cool.

After church, we had a quick brunch and then headed out to The Bell Museum (free today! – last Spring Break field trip). Everyone loved see all the dioramas that we have enjoyed so many times before. The Audubon Bird Art Exhibit was not as popular (same with the corn room) but the Touch and Feel Room was a hit.

The weather was absolutely spectacular and the kids really wanted to see part of the campus so we took a little walk around. We went over to Northrup Mall, across the bridge to Coffman Union and a took a quick peek into the Weisman Art Museum.

It was interesting to see how all the buildings on the Mall looked exactly the same as when I attended University there but there were so many new additions elsewhere, even since the last time we had been at Bell Museum – new student residences, offices, classrooms, sport facilities, parking lots, everything. Gloria was rather enthralled with the campus and we got a chance to talk about some of the different career options available and what some pathways are to get there. The next day, Katie and I also had a long discussion about all the different ways to get from Point A to Point B in education and career – hopefully without amassing an enormous amount of debt. Things are very different for the kids than they were for me and Jim!

The art museum was not a good age match for the kids but I would like to go visit there again sometime. There were many very striking things to see.
