After many years of trying different Easter Egg coloring methods and kits, I think we’ve finally hit it this year! The Easter Bunny has never been part of our celebrations but coloring eggs on Saturday always has been. For us, it is part of the celebration of a very special holiday meal for Sunday brunch after church, which includes extra beautiful hard boiled eggs, homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit and … double bacon!
I really liked this method because it involves using things we already have on hand, the colors are spectacular and each egg is a unique, surprise work of art.
These are the steps.
Wet a paper towel section with a weak vinegar solution (about 2 T for 1 c water)
Start adding drops of regular food coloring to the wet area.
Add more drops in a random or planned pattern, whichever you prefer. It’s fun to explore what happens with different color arrangements.
Set a hard-boiled egg in the center and pull the corners/sides of the paper towel up around the egg.
Set aside for a few minutes – about the amount of time it takes you to do the next egg.
Open the paper towel to reveal the results
Marvel at all the different little pieces of art that can result from the exact same process. The kid-made eggs are just as marvelous (if not more so) than the mom-made eggs!
I don’t think we’ll ever be going back to Paas again!
