First Day of Homeschool

Wow, what a day and what joy to be learning at home together. I can’t believe how much learning could take place just by releasing the kids into the things that interest them. The freedom to have mental space and be trusted to express real learning in a meaningful way is like a flood gate being opened in them. And being together just fills my heart to the brim. I can see that I will be learning TONS along with my “students.”

One of the favorite activities from today was going on a nature walk at Purgatory Park – being able to stop and look at little things like bits of bunny fur and interesting moss, observing the changes in the creek, and camping out on a bench to sketch whatever caught our eye. Every piece of art created a was different and a nice expression on what the artist was interested in exploring based on their choice of art materials that they brought.

The kids got to take most of these photos of all the things we saw and that they found fascinating.
