Sheep Shearing at Gale Woods Farm

Today, Jim and I took Lauren, Gloria, Natalie and Jamie out to Gale Woods Farm for sheep shearing day. This special event included a number of different activities and observation/interaction spots including seeing live sheep shearing, being in the pasture with the sheep, visiting the chickens (and chicks!), pigs, cows and walking around the property.

One thing I noticed was that nobody went up on the hay bales until our kids did. After that ALL the kids went on them. (Leaders!) Maybe nobody else had been there in the fall when they were set up as a maze and didn’t know it was OK!

It was a bright, sunny day and we enjoyed being both inside working with wool a bit and outside and learning more about the animals firsthand. We finished off with a picnic (the temp was about 45 degrees but we are desperate for Spring). For a final animal encounter, we had a farm cat get very interested in our food! It was a great experience.
