In keeping with Spring tradition, we took a tour on our side of Lake Minnetonka to check the ice out progress. Typically we do this on Spring break, but it seemed like we would miss it if we waited that long. The official ice out day this year was April 5, according to Officials with the Freshwater Society. From WCCO:
The ice-out declaration came Sunday after the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol and Freshwater Society members concluded that it was possible to boat through all the lake’s channels and 37 bays.
This year’s ice-out on Lake Minnetonka came 19 days earlier than 2014’s, the Freshwater Society said.
The median ice-out date for the lake is April 14.
We visited St Alban’s Bay, Deephaven Beach, Robinson’s Bay and the Gray’s Bay Dam. We definitely noticed that there was a lot less water than last year. It doesn’t look like there will be a flood anytime soon.
