We enjoyed lots of free time and some wonderful activities this year for Spring break. Weather was a prominent player in our planning because we had a WIDE range of temperatures and conditions to deal with. Here’s the rundown
Monday – movie at Hopkins discount theatre (Paddington) and dollar store run in the afternoon and a visit to Deephaven Park and Carson’s Bay after dinner. (Ice not completely out yet)
Tuesday – Lunch at IKEA and Minnehaha Falls
Wednesday – Ice Skating at Minnetonka Arena (funny because it was really nice outside). Lauren’s friend Kristine got to come too.
In the afternoon, I went to Aveda for 2 appointments with Juliana. In between, I got to walk down by the river on the St. Anthony Main side and look over the falls. It was over 80 degrees but so windy I could hardly hold my phone still to take photos.
This week, we were also chicken sitting for the Terrels and visited every day to feed and water our little friends – the girls named them (L to R below) Lemon, Johnny and Phillip. We figured out how to herd them back into their run by forming a human wall and walking forward. Lauren and I went to Backyard Chicken class so we spent time discussing coop design and chicken health info while we were there, too!
Thursday – Thorpe Park with Von Eduskutys. Lauren spent the rest of the day at Kathryn’s and helped out with the Maundy Thursday kids’ program at their church, too. There was still gymnastics in the afternoon. It was still nice out but not nearly as warm.
Friday – Como Zoo. It was actually pretty cold and we found out the hard way that certain entrances are closed in the “off” season but there were TONS of people there and we saw some fun stuff including an orangutan who was pushing a pistachio shell in and out of its mouth like a loose tooth. We all enjoyed the flower show and conservatory. The sloth was not feeling photogenic but we saw a cute little lizard we have never seen before in the tropics.
Later, we went to the Good Friday service at church. On Saturday, we had a lazy home day, colored eggs and cleaned up the house a little for Easter company coming on Sunday. I also got the much-anticipated candy ready. Of course, everything looks cuter in mason jars.
On Easter, my mom and dad, Justin/Sarah & the kids came and so did Juliana and Alex. Somehow it was decided that everyone should get a new mark on the doorframe to see how tall they were.
One of the highlights for Katie was receiving the quilt that Grandma Sharon had been working on for months.
It was a fun week with a good mix of activities!
