Lauren’s orchestra did an outreach concert at the St. Paul Music Academy that included some pieces with just Sinfonia as well as some joint pieces with the SPMA (elementary) students. It was interesting to notice how different they sounded in a school gymnasium compared to Orchestra Hall. Beyond that, I also noticed that there was a big difference in the racial makeup of our local schools and this St. Paul school. When I was in elementary school (in St. Paul), it was a more racially diverse area than it is here and I am a little sad that it is not the case for our kids.
