I am really enjoying seeing everyone finding and using cool ipad, Android and Nook apps in their learning. I am much more open to things that do not look “educational” on the surface. First everyone needs and likes some leisure time. The girls have shown that they will not “waste” an unlimited amount of time on making little square characters jump over boxes. They do have a natural limit and it seems like they are less drawn to a need to veg out now that they have more control over how their days are spent. Second, things that may not look “educational” DO have learning value. I look at the Flipagram that Lauren and Gloria made today and see that they are working with all sorts of knowledge here: Planning and executing the visual message, containing it in the allowed time, humor, point of view and more. The ability to take a piece of technology like the Flipagram app, learning how it works and deciding how to use it to communicate something about life right now is a wonderful skill!
