The record-breaking rain and water level on the lake continued to have a big effect on our activities. We had set out to see what was happening at the dam but decided to go past Gro-Tonka park on the way. We were completely amazed to see how much water was standing on the ball field and the entire hockey rink where we skate in the winter. When we got out to walk around in it, we discovered that the water was full of toads and tadpoles! The girls spent quite a bit of time picking up all sorts of specimens before we headed over to the dam. We decided to come back later with buckets to collect some and try and keep them as pets.
They were quite loud too – I shot this video to record the sound
The last thing we saw as we left was this rather large creeping thing, which we later decided was the larvae of some sort of large water beetle. It gave us the shivers.
At the dam, the high water was quite remarkable and I had been looking at the Minnehaha Creek website each day to see what was going on there. We saw Linda and Wayne there. She said she had never seen it like that and also recommended we go check out the park at Wayzata beach so we headed there next. There was water on the road going up Bushaway and it seemed likely that road would ne closed soon – it WAS closed on our return trip!
When we got there, it was pretty clear what Linda wanted us to see!
Even though it was kind of chilly, there was some swimming
But the best part was probably playing on the flooded playground -
