There has been a huge growth in the number of caterpillars, inchworms and other critters in our yard this week. The girls have been collecting them and looking at the wonderful variety. Some are harder to identify, especially the ones that are mostly green. We will be cataloging these in the nature notebook hopefully when the collecting dies down. We have released everything back into the yard. The only casualty was the one whose guts spilled out onto a paper plate – this caused a whole different kind of observing!
It is normal to see the magnifying glass out on the table at all times and common to see someone come in the house holding something or out of the house holding the camera. What a GREAT part of the year!
